How to Contribute Easily via a Quick Post
If you do not want use a blog, we have an much easier way for you to post to our site using software you know well- email!
See the Quick Post Hub:
How to Get Started
There is nothing to do beyond getting the email address! You can send it from your computer, your phone, your tablet, any device you can use to send an email message.
Because anyone with this address could post to our site, we have stored it, as well as a downloadable contact card, in a special password protected area. The password will be provided to all registered participants; if you need a reminder of the password, please contact us.
How to Contribute to the Course Site
When you send an email to the special address, the subject line becomes the title of the post, and anything you put in the body, including formatting, links and attachments, are published in the quick post hub and are part of the full site flow.
The following file extensions indicate file types that can be sent as attachments (other file name extensions like .zip will be ignored):
.jpg, .jpeg, .png,.gif
.pdf (Portable Document Format; Adobe Acrobat); .doc, .docx (Microsoft Word Document), .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx (Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation); .odt (OpenDocument Text Document); .xls, .xlsx (Microsoft Excel Document)
.mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wav
.mp4, .m4v (MPEG-4); .mov (QuickTime); .wmv (Windows Media Video); .avi
Nothing in the Quick Post will identify you, so if you want to include your name, you can choose to do so. Any email footer is ignored than starts below a line containing two dashes
--. You can also force the end to what is posted by included the code a blank line followed by
[end]… this tells our site to ignore anything in the message below.
Justin: Do we need this? The Institute Learning Groups will use this approach to share ideas, questions, etc from their group work. To have your quick post associated with a learning group, make sure your email includes a its unique code
where X is the group number and 20YY is the year.
[category group2-2014] to have to appear with the posts for the 2014 Institute’s Group 2.
If you put the URL for a YouTube or vimeo video, a flickr or instagram photo, a twitter message on a blank line, then WordPress is smart enough to embed that media in the published blog post (learn what WordPress can embed by a URL).
See an example of a message with embedded media that was sent via email.
We are hoping you are pretty adept at sending email! If you are interested see some of the other options available in the post by email tool.
Also, while we would have liked to have offered an option to post by SMS, it is not quite technically feasible without special arrangements with a carrier. However see How to Contribute via twitter for a way you could post to this site via SMS to twitter.
